A homeowner in Mayville reached out needing masonry and roofing updates around their chimney. They were concerned about deteriorating mortar joints and aging flashing materials, which could lead to leaks or further structural damage.
Assessment and Response
After reviewing the chimney’s condition, we identified several key issues that required immediate attention. The mortar joints showed signs of wear, and the existing flashing and shingles around the chimney were no longer adequate. We provided a detailed proposal outlining the necessary repairs and improvements to restore durability and prevent water intrusion.
Service Provided
We performed the following services to restore the chimney system:
- Chimney tuckpointing from the roofline up, grinding out all defective mortar joints to a depth of ¾” and refilling them with new mortar matched as closely as possible.
- Removed all existing chimney flashing and shingles in the surrounding area.
- Installed new ice and water shield, aluminum corners, step flashings, and custom-bent on-site counter flashing. All joints and seams were sealed with high-performance polyurethane sealant designed for long-term weather resistance.
- Reinstalled shingles around the chimney to ensure a watertight and clean finish.
Project Timeline
Work began shortly after the proposal was accepted and was completed promptly, with site protection and full cleanup included.
